Pints and Pool.

Last Friday, Brian and I checked out this relatively new pool place called Afterhour @ Soho, Mont' Kiara, after having dinner at Somo.
See, it's so confusing to have Soho and Somo in the same area I didn't know about Soho's existence until recently, and I kept correcting people who mentioned it, with a certain air of arrogance confidence. "It's Somo, not Soho."
Damn shy now

Love a bit of professional working wear thrown into the overall look, although I'm not exactly working YET.

When we arrived at Afterhour, we noticed a crowd of people surrounding one particular pool table in the distance. It looked like there was a competition going on, so we watched for awhile.

A face in the crowd

That's Leo, a veteran dancer I worked with in the past, during my freelance-dancing days.
Haven't seen him in so long, it was nice to have a quick catch up :)

Hello ladies.
a.k.a. The Guinness® Black Angels ;)

I approached one of the girls nearby and asked about the event. She handed me a leaflet; it so happens that tonight was the regional finals of the Guinness® Black Challenge: 9-Ball Tour.

I soon found out that the preliminary round of this major competition was the 9-Ball Speed Pool challenge.
The rules of the game were simple enough.
6 balls are placed near the 6 pockets on the pool table, and the remaining 3 balls are placed in the middle of the table in a straight line.
Players are supposed to pot in all 9 balls the fastest, in no particular order

Ooh, sounds fun, and easy! I wanna play too *pfaah*

But the girls told me the 9-Ball Speed Pool games are already over and done with, in previous rounds and outlets. (drats)

I'm kidding.

I enjoy pool but knowing me, I would choke under pressure and embarrass myself horribly, like trip and fall while running quickly around the table. Or something completely irrelevant to the game like that.

Hoh, you laugh, but I can foresee that happening

All outlet winners would have "qualified" for the main 9-Ball Pool challenge, which was happening tonight!
Tonight's event was the regional finals, and the regional champion will advance to the national finals in Genting Highlands Resort on the 30th May - 1 June.
The winner of the national finals will get to compete in the International Guinness® 9-Ball Tour Grand Finals in Jakarta, on the 24th - 26th October.

The 9-Ball Pool games went on into the night, knock-out tournament style.
I watched a few games before I went and studied the scoreboard of the current prevailing winners, and something caught my eye.

A female contestant!
In a evidently male-dominant competition!
*excited face* YOU GO GIRL!
I quickly stopped myself from whoop-whooping out loud see close call to embarrassing myself again.

One of the promoter girls again told me Cindy Lim was the only female contestant left in this round. Ooh, I hope she goes far, make us proud :)

Not Cindy Lim.

So we couldn't exactly participate in anything at this stage now, can we.
So Brian and I had our own private tournament for ourselves ;)

My challenger

See the balls all grouped up like that? That was the result of *me* initiating the break sad.

Deep in concentration

Pool is sort of a Brian and Cynthia thing... :) there's history lah.

Well, that's 'cause I'm the only girl he knows who lives up to his level of skill in pool *smirks*
KIDDING LA. I have my on and off days mostly off but who's counting.

And who better to play pool and enjoy a pint of Guinness® Draught with, than the guy who taught me to appreciate beer, stout, draught and the likes ;)

As for our little private tournament, can you guess what the winning prize was?

Finals.

A quickie update before finals ;)
Thought I wouldn't update til after my finals? Think again ;)

But what was supposed to be a short quickie with only few items, ended up being 11 whopping new items up for grabs. Whoops

And is it just me, or are there more and more pictures per item, and their names getting longer and longer?

;p

Happy raiding <3

:+:+:

I just watch the American Idol Finals tonight....

Fcuking hell, they were both fricking phenomenal. F-F-F!

Ok i didn't follow this season's American Idol because previous seasons were mostly let-downs.
I mean, of course there were a few good ones, maybe a great one or two, but usually not worth following week after week, all season long. Just catch the semi-finals and the finals enough ;) and heck there's always Youtube.

But I've always heard this season is amazing, (according to sisterDebbie 'cause she's a huge huge fan devout follower every single week must watch the same episode many many times )
I heard that even from the earlier stages all the 12 contestants were amazing! But I was still too lazy to follow the whole season. But I'd listen in on the performances from upstairs while Debbie watches the TV downstairs. Damn good la.

I will not Google up David Cook's or David Archuleta's pictures to post on my blog, dissect and analyse their final performances and ramble over how good each and every performance was, because I'm not a huge huge fan devout follower every single week must watch the same episode many many times,

(ok well I did Google Archuleta because I didnt know how to spell his name)

But here's the brief low-down:

The finalists are both guys. And they're both actually good. Ah, finally!

If I'm not mistaken, the only time 2 guys were in the finals was season 2, Clay Aiken against Ruben Studdard, and only one of them was good and he did not win oh the disappointment.
This season both the Davids are amazing so I'm happy with whatever the result will turn out to be.

I adore Archuleta the boy is so young and talented and humble and did you see, he always wants to cry after each performance so sweeeet, can see he's so overwhelmed and humbled by the screaming audience and the judges' compliments

But for the record, and in life we always must choose only one,
I'm totally rooting for Cook.
'Cause he's hot and perhaps more versatile than Archuleta, the MAN can rock the house down and sing ballads, yo.
Archuleta's more of a ballads guy. And did I mention David Cook is hot?
And Cook can cook wtf ok lame and play his own musical instruments, yo. Beat that, Archuleta.

But aiyo Archuleta's so sweeeet how to vote against him <3

Oh, and at the end of Cook's last performance when he sang his bloody heart out you can practically hear his anguish in the chorus, he actually cried at the end GOSH that's so sweet!
Show's the rockstar's got a major sensitive side, aiyo what a lady-killer <3
Although I thought that was potentially sneaky and gimmick-ish, since Archuleta always almost-cry but Cook finally did-cry
Maybe a gimmick, but whatever it worked! I cheered and whoop-whooped in my living room so loud ah, so emotional

Ok that's all for American Idol news.

And btw Debbie and I agreed to wake up at 8am tomorrow morning for the live telecast of the results being announced haha, how did I turn into a huge huge fan devout follower overnight?

Currently listening to: David Cook - Billie Jean (OMG!)

:+:edit:+:

OMG COOK WON! WOOOOO!
I was actually expecting Archuleta's name to be announced, cringing and gripping with suspense, I mean it was a 56%-44% win ok, so close! And I could've sworn Archuleta's fan base was just that bit more... until "David... COOK!" was announced!! Wooo!
*deranged bimbo fan scream*
I LOVE UNDERDOGS!

And suddenly, waking up at 7.45am to watch 2 full hours of nonsense stalling performance fillers, that bored me to the point of falling asleep on the couch,
suddenly it was worth it :)

Not Thoughtful.

(Referring to this post,)

Haa, there there there came the text messages and Gmail chats from friends, "Woman are you ok my gawd another emo blog post."

What another emo blog post! They come in extremely rare supply, mind you. And what emo! I'd like to be called thoughtful, it sounds way cooler than emo thank you very much

God only knows what the strangers are saying lah.

But anyways I'm ok now hehe. And by that I mean I'm not thoughtful anymore.

:+:

Can I blog about something random but quite repulsive can can can.

I recently looked through my blog tracking device, see sometimes it's fun to see who's reading :) and how they got to find my blog, how am I linked etc. I tend to read blogs who read mine as well.
And also see how people may have stumbled across my blog from typing certain keywords into Google search?
Other than your average "thatgirlcynthia", "cynthia ong blog", and recently, occasionally, "brian lau cleo winner",

Most notorious one I still get til today is "Thai girls".

Misspelling "thia" and you get "thai". Oh woe is me.

And I'm sure the Googler wasn't Googling for your average girl with Thai ethnicity, to learn the culture and the language, oh nooo. It can't be that PG-13.

Btw if any of you start referring to me as "Thai girl" imma smack you so hard don't try me.

So anyway.
But recently I found something truly atrocious. I mean, what could be worse right? you may wonder.
I found this little beau. "Cucumber up the bum"
WTF how is it even remotely possible that the phrase can be linked to my blog!

ok that was kinda funny. But no, ugh, sickk, disgust!
See, this is how creepy pervy people find your blog ok go awaay.

I don't even remember blogging anything about cucumbers. Or bums, for that matter.

So I investigated a little, and saw this.

Bum, for my post on Beach Bum at Lang Tengah and in that same post, sea cucumbers.

Wow. Like that also can.

:+:

See. This is me. Not thoughtful.

Draft.

I heaved a big sigh and rubbed my weary eyes. 12.45am, still early, I thought.
I looked away from my laptop screen to my neglected P3 Business Analysis notes at the side of my table. It's been 3 hours since I "took a break" from studying, 3 hours since my dear Lappy called to me playfully, for companionship or something, or perhaps it was I who wanted the companionship or something. So I pushed my notes slightly to the side. "Just 5 minutes."

And now, 3 hours later my eyes stinging from staring at the bright laptop screen for too long,
I rest my eyes and sit back in my chair, recollecting my thoughts.

Why won't those strong piercing words thrown at me, and vice versa, during our argument stop resonating in my mind.

I cannot find a reason to let my guard down.

...shit, finals are in 3 weeks.

I am strong, and I will not allow this to affect my studies. Or affect me, for that matter.

God, I have wayy too many depressing songs in my playlist.

Someone needs to clear out my depressing songs from my laptop. No ok I take that back, for I will hunt down the person who touches my music folders.

Why hasn't he called. Oh that's right, because he is out tonight. He is there.

I need more coffee.

:+:+:

Those 3 hours would normally be taken up by a series of web-surfing, music-hunting, email-checking, blog-hopping. And browsing my playlist for songs that best suited my mood.
But this time my 3 hours were only occupied by one blog.
I even back-tracked and read her archives. Of course I'm nowhere near done yet, and interestingly this is one blog I find myself unable to stop reading; she writes with a certain flair that leaves her readers aching for more, and wanting to read all the way through.

One thing I envy about Hope, besides her unprecedented skill as a writer, her flair for words, and the fact that her life story should be made into a frickin' movie,
Mostly, I envy her anonymity.
No pictures of her to point fingers at, no details of her identity, nor what she looks like, nor the places she hangs out at. Only generic nicknames like "The Bar" and "The Man".
Her freedom to write whatever the hell she wants, whenever her complex mind wanders off,
and usually the first unedited version of the book, or in my case my "Drafts", is most true. Most unfabricated. Most real.

And although I do write whatever the hell I want, most of the time,
I am confined by certain unspoken boundaries. As most bloggers who post their pictures on their blogs are. To avoid being judged by my peers and those who know me.
Strangers who recognize my pictures will say, "Oh ThatGirlCynthia, yea that crazy emo chick."
Friends will say, "My god woman are you ok."
But this post I write, although short and blurted out in single-liners,
is probably the most real I have written in awhile.

:+:+:

Do you know of any other blogs to recommend? Preferrably similar to this genre, this thought-provoking, soul-connecting, beautifully-written genre. But oh any good reads will do. Do share!
Although I must admit it may be deliciously detrimental to my health, but I don't care.

I Am Very Excite!

So rumour has it that I'm running away to this other continent you see,
but rumours will remain rumours if coming from unreliable sources
So take it from me when I say this.

It has been confirmed.

That I *will* be flying my hot Malaysian butt (no pun intended) all the way to the cold wintery land down under, come end of June!
Melbourne, if you still cannot guess by now ;)

Confirmed! Like, I booked the flight tickets online last week and the "E-ticket" is sitting safely in my email inbox kind of confirmed woohoo! *excited face*

So the first few people I told were Sarah and Faye, and all three of us who were supposed to be studying at the time, dropped our books and immediately got on MSN
(eh it's a big deal for me to come on MSN ok, i never come on MSN)
wanted Shaun and Eujin to join in the chat too but they were too preoccupied with the big Man U match
Thats ok, they'd feel lost in our girlish bimbo shrieks of a chatroom anyway, because all we did for the whole 2 hours was:

1. Scream with big bold lettering "YAY I AM VERY EXCITE!"

2. Giggle giggle like smeogol wtf

3. We made budgetary plans! Because for this holiday trip, or hopefully not the full expense but most of the expenses, will be borne by mua. Ouch, kachinggg.

But I can't expect the Daddy-O to pay for everything, to finance my random fantasies of running away to another continent.
And I told him that too, when I presented to him my detailed formal plans to visit Australia.
Things with my dad are like this, everything must be in detail.
And I suppose I earned extra brownie points when I made sure he noticed me following him closely around the airport during our trip to Bangkok.
Now he knows his little girl won't be blur and possibly get on the wrong plane at the airport. Eh it could happen ok.
See, everything has been pre-strategized from many months ago

But hopefully he might pay for some of the expenses? The flight tickets perhaps?
*fingers crossed*
The financial breakdown of who's paying what hasn't been finalised yet, but I'm getting worried.
You see, my dad kinda sorta might know roughly what's in my bank account. Oh shite.
ROOKIE MISTAKE. Never let your parents know what's in your bank account!

Nevermind moving on with the girlish chat.

4. We made rough plans on what to do when I get there!
And I specifically requested to do really touristy things, like "Let's visit the museum! The zoo! The park! Go to the mountains! SEE SNOW!!" *excited face*
"......OMG i've lived here for 3 years and I've never even been to the zoo!"
"Well, there's a first for everything!"

5. I made the girls google for me pictures of Melbourne's winter fashion (LOL LOL) because i didn't want to look like a tourist

And at some points I felt like a complete jakun because when one says winter jackets, they really meant these:

But I replied, "Eh, winter jackets don't you mean this?":

Which sent them both into laughing fits. Whaat!
But yeah, theirs are so GossipGirl and mine is so the tak glamour ok.

6. We googled a lot of pictures :) sorry la I'm quite fashion-conscious.

Took us awhile to finally get offline too,
"It's getting late I should sleep! But I'm too excited to sleep!"

Seriously, when it comes to chatting with these girls online, who needs a videocam or a microphone?

:+:+:+:

But I suppose the main reason why I'm so ruddy hyped up about this trip is 'cause,
This will be my very first real holiday, or so to speak.
Where I'm in a different country altogether, far away from home, far away from family,
my expenses, my rules, different culture, different experience, very different weather
Well of course I have my very protective friends over there to look after me but still!
It's a start!

Baby steps to growing up.

And when I grow up I want to travel the world.
I've met so many interesting people who have done the travelling or are doing it and at the very least, make it a point to have a major trip at least once a year.
They become so interesting to talk to, with endless fascinating stories and life experiences and so refreshingly open-minded,

Okay. Let's not get carried away now.
Right now I'll put away the faraway thoughts of visiting Europe, Japan and South America some day,
and look at where I'll be in a month's time - Mini Malaysia.

:+:+:+:

So all in all, I will be in Melbourne from 25th June - 15th July.
And I want to meet as many people I know there as possible within my short stay of 3 weeks.
The problem with Melbourne is, yes it's known as Mini Malaysia everyone is there, but when it comes down to it, WHO exactly is everyone?
Buzz me if you want to meet up, alright ;)

Oh, and possibly google me some appropriate Melbourne wintery clothes because I'm really fashion-conscious-borderline-obsessive, can't you tell by now
Faye and Sarah have been great help, but too much help won't hurt, right?

;)

Lip Smacking Goodness.

I had a date with sisterDebbie some time last week. Or more like an appointment.

Those of you who frequent my blog would know how close we are as sisters, to the point that I get people and acquaintances coming up to me saying, "Yo. How's the Debbie."
only to find out that they read my blog, lol.

Back in the day when we had little obligations in life, we would always chill at home, watch TV, make lame jokes only the 2 of us would get, laugh really loudly, sneak off to each other's room at night and just chat. And sing songs. And laugh really loudly again
(You really don't want to be our next door neighbour you see )
Ah, good times. Ok actually we still do it now, just, not as often as we used to. The neighbours seem happier too, these days.

I'm always swamped with stuff to do I don't even know why, classes assignments thesis studies boyfie friends work social events blaaah.
She's always busy with college assignments, and often her social life gets in the way of our sisterly bonding sessions too :(
She's always out during the day, I'm always out at night and day,

Aiyo wei

So finally, my Mock Exams are over and her assignments are done,
I quickly booked her last Saturday to just, hang.

Brought her to The Curve recently and wanted to check out the weekend flea market.
But the weather that day was absolutely merciless. We browsed past 3 stalls and we couldn't take the heat anymore and the crowd.
So we headed into The Curve shopping mall for some good ol' air conditioning :) hee.

Debbie poked me at one point.
"Che, have you tried New Zealand Natural before?"
She pointed at the ice cream shoppe nearby the escalator.
"The ice cream? No i haven't. Now that you mentioned it, this is so unlike me because i love ice cream yet i've never had NZN before."
"Yea-lah, tried Baskin, HaagenDaaz, LeckaLecka and everything already, except NZN. Let's go try!"

perfect for a scorching hot day too.

Mmmn :) *smacks lips*

Hullo!

Manager Muiz attended to us, explaining all their promotions and recommended items to us newbies.

And he's such a sweetheart you know, we told him we were newbies and we wanted to try a few flavors,
he went on and gave us mini-spoon after mini-spoon testing out ALL their flavors even though there were a lot of other people at the counter.
Talk about quality service :)

Low-fats and yoghurts!

Although they have your standard vanilla, rum raisin, chocolate chip and other mouthwatering classics,
I was sold by their array of fruit-based ice cream.
What got my attention is that they don't use any preservatives! All natural all healthy, they're made from real fruits with chunky bits of fruit in them too, yumm

99% fat free!

Naturally, fruit-based ice cream are perfect for the weight watchers.
Not that my sister or myself are weight watchers But hey, can't hurt to lean over to the healthy side, right?

What to eat! What to eat!

A nearby family customer. Little boy licking on a mini-spoon, so cute!

Picture a little fuzzy because I wanted to discreetly snap the picture fast, but got nervous instead.

Left: Debbie chose the Mango Passion Fruit Flo with real mango bits.
Right: My Passionfruit sorbet and an extra scoop of Mango sorbet, 'cause I couldn't decide on just one besides, it's 99% fat freeeeee!

Nyaaaam

A happy camper

Share one with your loved one, awww
Goes to show that ice cream's not only for kids ;)

Another wonky nervously fast-snapped picture i feel damn paparazzi-ish.

Yes son, eating NZN ice cream makes your face like this

Blur-faced Debbie

And I found out, NZN's got a 30% on the 30th sale.
Where it speaks for itself, you get a 30% discount off their ice cream every month.
Not every alternate month ;)
But well, don't show up in February with this promo in mind, hee.
I reckon this would be a good opportunity to try out each and every mouthwatering flavour available
or simply stick to your favourites and indulge in this perfect comfort food
And ice cream is always the perfect gift for your younger siblings or kids - and you don't even have to tell them it's healthy and good for them! Shhh....

Third.

I have this little Starbucks journal i got last Christmas, so cute so whimsical complete with colours, pictures and "handwriting" font all over the place,
and practical too, with sufficient lines and spacing for every day of the year. And a few empty full pages at the end of each month for your own "notes"!
Love it
Love it so much that i got a Thomas Sabo diary too, but i still chose to use the Starbucks one.
After deciding to actually use it, of course. (Didn't want to use it at first because it was so pretty and clean!)
I now use it mainly for reminders, to-do-lists, work/event/job details, CoolSister'sCloset orders and customer particulars etc, mainly for work purposes la.
Sad right, use such an adorable notebook for work but it's either that or a homework/ assignment book, which would be even sadder.

But amongst my slightly-boring notes scribbled all over the place, I found an unfamiliar, yet so affectionately familiar one :)
Written in the 15th May column.
I rarely ever see his handwriting. But upon first glance, I somehow recognized it before I went on to read it.

<3

Happy anniversary, B'.
